Goal 6- Creative Activities

Goal: Examine creative activities and moment to moment interventions for young people/person we support that promote wellness, using “evidence based/evidence informed” theories

Strategy:I will use small therapeutic interventions based on Burns to build safety in my relationships with the people we support. I will work to examine and find programming to meet the individuals where they are at.

Resource: Burns (2016) writes, “The five environmental  elements (physical, social, sensory-emotional, cultural, and ideological) along with the three hierarchical needs (safety, inclusion, and affirmation) are used as a basis for understanding evaluating and implementing corrective or supportive strategies within the therapeutic milieu,” (p.25).

Evidence:

Reflection: In order to build my relationship with one of the individuals we support in the After School program I implemented a routine for them to check off as they accomplish different tasks when they arrive. They also have one for when they leave at night. This gives them a clear routine of what to do and expect when they arrive. Arrival time in After School is particularly hectic so by giving this individual a schedule to follow, we ensure that they are not overwhelmed and can concentrate on what they have to be doing.
